Malaysia Airlines Psychomotor and Psychometric Test

Finally updating about the test I sat for sometimes ago.. Wake up late that morning =.=, dad rush me to MAS Complex A, Simulator Building at Subang. Don’t know why I don’t feel nervous like most people should. Maybe I didn’t done too much preparation earlier, so nothing much for me to loose.. LOL. and I am taking it just as an experience for me, rather than a real test. I was scheduled at 9am sharp. Lucky enough, we’re able to get there around 8.30am. No 1 was there.. Not even the examiner.. Later, Mogan came in with his dad, also a pilot and my dad’s old friend. Then another guy at his mid thirties join in. He’s a ground instructor at Kota Bahru, and wanted to become a flight instructor(I soon found out he got colour blind. Red and green..). That day, there was only three of us sitting the test, usually is about 24 people. We went into a small dark room like cyber cafe, with rows of computers. It was like a freezer in there. Psychomotor test started a few minutes past 9. The test is made up of 5 section, each testing our hand-eye coordination, listening and observing skill, and ability to fly a plane. First section, the was 2 lines on the screen, one horizontal and the other vertical, and the lines are moving constantly and randomly. Instruction is easy, use your joystick and put the lines in the middle as long as possible. I done badly on this, it was too cold and my hand are shivering! Next, 3 pictures of a guy holding a square and a circle are shown. Not as easy as you think, they are some up-side-down and inverted pictures.. And the tricky part is the listening. They’ll sound like this ‘Negative Left Square’ or ‘Positive Right Circle’ so in just a mere 6 seconds, we’re asked to determine how many pictures are true.. Forgot how many questions there.. Eye also blurr already.. The third next section was like peanuts.. Even my sis also can do. A 6X6 table are shown, the first column have different shapes that keep switching position, while the first row have different colours that also keep changing. Then some shape with colours appear in the empty slots and we have to hit the 1 that are in the correct place. Piece of cake. Swt. The key is to concentrate.. First identify the correct shape, then focus on the colour. Next section is really tearing my pants off(at first..). Two parent pictures with lots of lines are shown, below them, is a geometry shape. And the instruction is to determine whether the shape appear in one of it, both of it or none of it.. And yes there is also a 30 or 45 sec (can’t remember) time limit. At first, I really have no idea what to look for. All I see are lines and lines.. After a few questions, I finally get the key. Look at the gradient of those lines correspond to the shape. It’s very fast to see if the pictures consist of the shape. Last section was ok for me. There was a simple plane in the screen and we need to maneuver it carefully and gently through series of boxes. Just be gentle and don’t steer too much, it’s very sensitive! That’s the end of psychomotor test, taken roughly an hour. I came out of the room, frozen. When all done, the HR malay aunty(forgot her name =p) said only 2 made it. Lucky enough, I was through! Surprise to know that the ground instructor fail it.. Unexpectedly, the aunty say we are going to sit for the psychometric test(they call it Mispa) on the same day.. Which usually happens only few weeks or a month ofter psychomotor. Mogan and I have not prepare anything at all! We’re giving half hour to have a quick breakfast (thanks to Mogan’s dad for the breakfast=) ). The next thing I know, we’re sitting inside a conference room and facing the mispa papers. Mispa contains 4 papers. I’ll make it fast and short on this. 1st paper is comprehension, 60 questions in 30 mins. 2nd paper is statistic, 40 or 50 question in 30 or 40 mins. 3rd paper is IQ question, 30 question in 20 mins. 4th paper is personality test, 100 question in no time limit (should be finish about 1 hr). I had not finish about 35-40% of the first 3 paper. There was simply not enough time, even to look at my clock. Although the room is not freezing cold! The result will be out in 1 month. But I had already got the result in mind. So I post this so the next time, hopefully I’ll do better than this!!
